Meet Mary Ann Winkowski. She is just like you. She is a married
mother of two grown daughters. She lives in a suburban town in
Ohio. She goes to church every Sunday.
And she sees and talks to ghosts.
Mary Ann's grandmother noticed her unusual ability when she was
practically a baby. By the time Mary Ann was four years old, she
was attending neighborhood funerals to broker communication between
those who had died and their living loved ones. Word of her
extraordinary abilities spread, and Mary Ann was soon accompanying
her grandmother on "social calls," visits where Mary Ann would
confront earthbound spirits who were sharing homes with the living.
This ability stayed with Mary Ann through her adolescence into
adulthood, and the stay-at-home mom eventually had a side business:
paranormal consultant.
In this remarkable book, Mary Ann tells her incredible story. She
talks about the difference between earthbound spirits and those who
have crossed over; she tells you why spirits remain on the earthly
plane and how long they have before their "White Light' disappears;
she shares her most intriguing and infamous tales about the spirits
she has encountered. And she divulges how to determine whether your
house or your family is haunted--and what to do if there is a ghost
around you.
Full of no-nonsense advice, amazing anecdotes, and practical tips
for navigating a paranormal phenomenon that is at once unbelievable
and awe-inspiring, WHEN GHOSTS SPEAK is a must-read for any person
who has ever heard something go bump in the night.
"As Alive, So Dead" is a collection of memoirs by a woman with a
unique ability: she can see and talk to ghosts. Because of this,
she is able to write a book that shows the human side of the
paranormal-stories about ghosts told from the perspectives of the
ghosts themselves. Recounting the stories of those who have died in
a variety of ways, "As Alive, So Dead" looks at death through the
eyes of the victims of murder, suicide, and accident, as well as
glimpses into the afterlife of Native Americans, patients kept
alive on life-support, and even animals. Far from the
sensationalized tales of most ghost lore, "As Alive, So Dead"
presents real stories of troubled people-both the living and the
dead-not simply the terror of sinister manifestations. "As Alive,
So Dead" is a lesson on death and the immortality of the spirit
that only someone who can actually speak with the deceased could
teach. Originally published in 2000 with a limited run, "As Alive,
So Dead" sold out immediately and had been out of print ever since.
Over the next decade, Mary Ann Winkowski inspired and served as a
consultant to TV's "Ghost Whisperer," which starred Jennifer Love
Hewitt and ran on CBS for five seasons. She also published four
additional books, including "When Ghosts Speak"; "Beyond Delicious:
The Ghost Whisperer's Cookbook"; and two works of fiction based on
her experiences. Despite this, the one thing she has been
repeatedly asked by fans and clients over the years is where they
can get a copy of her first memoir: "As Alive, So Dead." Finally
back in print, these requests can now be filled. The second edition
of "As Alive, So Dead" has been reformatted for better readability
and includes the last names of Mary Ann and her ghostwriter, David
Powers, who previously left their last names off the book and
published it simply as Mary Ann and David Christopher.
Sleepy Block Island seems just the place for ghost whisperer Anza
O'Malley to find some much-needed peace and quiet. But with
troubled spirits dead set on making their voices heard, rest is in
short supply
February 1907, Block Island. Residents of this tiny Rhode Island
community awaken to a scene of tragedy: During a midnight blizzard,
a New York-bound steamer carrying 157 passengers has been destroyed
at sea. Volunteers rush to the beach to organize a
search-and-rescue effort--but for most of the passengers, hope is
already lost.
A century later, residents of the island are busy preparing for the
summer season and debating the merits of a proposed wind farm near
the beach. No one expects that those long-forgotten passengers may
have something to say about the project, but the restless spirits
are furious that their final resting place may be disturbed--and
turn to Anza to help them protect it. If spirit-world
preservationists aren't enough, Anza also has to face the
uncomfortable possibility that her five-year-old son, Henry, has
inherited her gift. And then there's that handsome fisherman whose
charms are proving difficult to ignore.
What began as a simple island sojourn turns into a week of chills,
thrills, and ghostly intrigue in this gripping second novel in the
Ghost Files series.
Mary Ann Winkowski is a happily married mum just like any other,
except for one thing: she talks to dead people. Mary Ann realised
she had a gift when she was a little girl, when earthbound spirits
began communicating with her. Thus began a lifetime of helping the
departed make peace with whatever kept them from crossing over into
the next realm - a loved one, unresolved emotions, a home they
couldn't leave. In this incredible book, Mary Ann shares
fascinating stories of her many paranormal encounters, as well as
advice on how to recognise when you're not alone, and what to do if
you find yourself in the presence of a ghost.
The criminal underworld meets the spiritual otherworld in this
thrilling debut collaboration between the inspiration for
television's "The Ghost Whisperer" and an award-winning
writer/director.
Anza O'Malley is in most ways a typical single mom. She lives a
happy, busy life with her five-year-old son in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, juggling the joys and challenges of life as a doting
parent and a freelance bookbinder. But there is more to Anza than
meets the "ungifted" eye: she can see and speak with ghosts.
Although she's been solving cold cases for the police for years,
Anza has been hoping to focus her energies on her son and her
bookbinding career. But when an exquisite and priceless illuminated
manuscript is stolen from the Boston Athenaeum, and when its
desecration spurs the appearance of some very unhappy spirits, Anza
can neither look nor walk away. With an unlikely trio of ghosts by
her side-a charming butler and two medieval monks-Anza leads us on
an urgent journey through Boston's winding, cobbled streets to
uncover a trail of deceit, danger, and ghoulish intrigue.
